Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2023 Subaru BRZ?
The NHTSA lists 2 relevant recall notices affecting BRZ-related model years and components, including an engine valve spring fracture risk and an owners manual clarification. The engine-related recall describes fractured valve springs that can cause an engine malfunction or a possible engine stall, which increases crash risk; the owners manual recall corrects inaccurate passenger occupant classification and airbag information that could raise injury risk. Both recalls are handled by the manufacturer and repaired free of charge at authorized Subaru dealers like Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley.
How do I check if my 2023 Subaru BRZ has an open recall?
You can check recalls by entering your VIN on NHTSA.gov or contact us and we will check your VIN for free. Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley can verify your VIN, confirm open recalls from NHTSA records, and advise you on next steps—call or visit our service center in Greeley. If you prefer to act now, schedule service online and our team will confirm recall status on arrival; we also offer service financing so you can get any non-recall work completed now and pay over time.
How much does a 2023 Subaru BRZ recall repair cost?
Manufacturer-authorized recall repairs are free of charge to the vehicle owner. For the issues summarized from NHTSA records, replacement parts or corrected manuals are provided at no cost when performed at a certified Subaru franchise like Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley. If additional non-recall maintenance is required, we will outline costs and available promotions via our service specials and offer service financing to ease payment.
Can I get my 2023 Subaru BRZ recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be performed by authorized dealers to ensure OEM parts, proper diagnostics, and compliance with manufacturer procedures; we strongly recommend using a certified Subaru dealer. Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley uses Subaru OEM parts, factory diagnostics, and factory-trained technicians—this ensures warranty compliance and full documentation of the completed recall repair. For convenience, schedule appointment with our recall team and we will handle the rest; recall repairs remain free when done at an authorized Subaru dealer.
How long does a 2023 Subaru BRZ recall repair take?
Most recall repairs are completed within a few hours to one business day, depending on parts availability and the specific service required. Engine valve spring replacement (as noted in the NHTSA engine recall) requires inspection and part replacement that can take longer if special-order parts are needed; our service advisors at Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley will give you an estimated turnaround when you schedule service. If parts are delayed, we will proactively notify you and discuss options so you can plan—our goal is fast, safe completion with minimal disruption.
Does an open recall affect my 2023 Subaru BRZ's trade-in or resale value?
Yes—unresolved recalls can reduce trade-in or resale value because many buyers and dealers check NHTSA recall status prior to purchase. Having recalls repaired at Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley restores consumer confidence and preserves value; we document completed recall work, which helps when you trade in or sell your vehicle. To protect value now, get open recalls resolved and then use our online trade tools at value your trade to understand market impact and appraisal options.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2023 Subaru BRZ recall?
Open safety recalls can affect inspections depending on state requirements and the nature of the defect; some inspectors will note unresolved safety recalls during an inspection. The NHTSA recalls we reference (engine valve spring fracture and owners manual clarification) relate to safety-critical systems, so timely repair is strongly recommended to avoid inspection or insurance complications.
