Frequently Asked Questions

12 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2020 Subaru Ascent?
The NHTSA has identified five recalls that affect the 2020 Subaru Ascent related to structure, driveshaft, transmission control, PCV valve, and fuel pump. These recalls originate from NHTSA records for related 2019 model investigations and can impact vehicle strength, driveline integrity, transmission hydraulic sensing, engine PCV components, and the low pressure fuel pump. Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley inspects and completes all manufacturer recall repairs free of charge—contact us to verify your VIN and schedule service.
How do I check if my 2020 Subaru Ascent has an open recall?
You can check open recalls by entering your VIN on NHTSA.gov or by contacting Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley for a free VIN check. The NHTSA database will report recall campaigns like structure spot-weld inspections (WTU-80), driveshaft assembly replacement (WUI-94), transmission control reprogramming (WUV-07), PCV valve inspection/replacement (WUW-08), and low pressure fuel pump replacement (WRD-20). If you prefer, call or visit our service center and we will check your vehicle and help you schedule service at no cost; service financing options are available if additional maintenance is desired.
How much does a 2020 Subaru Ascent recall repair cost?
Recall repairs for the 2020 Subaru Ascent are performed at no cost to the owner under the manufacturer's recall program. Subaru-authorized dealers complete corrective actions free of charge, including weld inspections or vehicle replacement for missing spot welds, driveshaft assembly replacement, TCU reprogramming or replacement where required, PCV valve replacement or short block replacement if parts are lost, and fuel pump replacement. Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley will never charge for recall repairs; we also offer service specials and financing for any unrelated work you may need—see our service specials.
Can I get my 2020 Subaru Ascent recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be completed by an authorized dealer to ensure OEM parts, manufacturer procedures, and safety compliance; Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley is your certified Subaru franchise dealer for these repairs. Independent shops cannot always access manufacturer-specific software updates, warranty parts, or the dealer-level replacement vehicles offered when structural repairs require vehicle replacement under a recall. Bring your vehicle to us to schedule service—we use Subaru OEM diagnostic tools and factory-trained technicians to complete recall work correctly and document repairs for NHTSA records; service financing is available.
How long does a 2020 Subaru Ascent recall repair take?
Repair times vary by recall: some fixes (inspections or reprogramming) can take under a couple of hours, while parts replacement or full assembly swaps can take longer. For the 2020 Subaru Ascent, expect inspection and TCU reprogramming to be relatively quick; driveshaft or engine short-block replacements will require more time and parts availability. Contact Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley to confirm estimated turnaround and to schedule appointment; we prioritize recalls to minimize your downtime.
Does an open recall affect my 2020 Subaru Ascent's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can negatively affect trade-in value and buyer confidence because dealers and private buyers often check NHTSA recall status during appraisal. Having recall work completed at a certified dealer preserves value and documents that safety issues were addressed; Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley can complete and record recall repairs to protect resale value. When ready to sell or trade, visit our appraisal page to get started: value your trade.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2020 Subaru Ascent recall?
Open recalls can sometimes affect inspection or registration depending on the nature of the defect and state regulations; safety-related recalls increase the risk of failing an inspection if they impact emissions or safety systems. Addressing recalls promptly at Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley ensures your vehicle meets safety standards and reduces the chance of inspection or insurance complications. We encourage owners to schedule service immediately for any open recall; service financing is available to assist with non-recall maintenance needs.
Safety Risks You Can't Ignore
The safety of you and your passengers is the top priority. For the 2020 Subaru Ascent, NHTSA records show recall campaigns affecting structural spot welds, driveshaft center support bolts, a transmission hydraulic sensor, the aluminum PCV valve, and the low pressure fuel pump—each can create safety hazards if unaddressed. Missing spot welds near the B-pillar may reduce crash strength; loose driveshaft bolts could allow separation of the driveshaft front portion; inaccurate hydraulic pressure sensing can reduce drive power; a separated PCV valve can send parts into the engine and cause sudden loss of power; and a failing low pressure fuel pump can stall the engine and prevent restart. Ignoring these issues risks injury, adds liability, and may affect insurance claims. At Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley we prioritize safety: our factory-trained technicians inspect, diagnose, and complete manufacturer's corrective actions free of charge to restore safety. If you suspect a problem or want a VIN check, please schedule service now or see our service specials to plan your visit.
