Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2017 Subaru Impreza?
The NHTSA has issued 40 recalls affecting the 2017 Subaru Impreza covering components such as brake lights, engine components, air bag inflators, ignition/ECM software, and brake systems. Key issues documented by NHTSA include brake light switch contamination (which can prevent brake lights from illuminating and affect shifting), air bag inflator defects that may explode, fractured engine valve springs or PCV valve separations that can cause stalls or power loss, and ECM/ignition coil short circuits that can cause stalls. Corrective actions are manufacturer-funded and vary by recall: dealers will replace or repair faulty switches, reprogram ECM/software, replace air bag inflators, inspect/replace PCV valves or valve springs, and perform other free repairs as required by Subaru. If you want to confirm or schedule service, you can schedule service with Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley and ask our factory-trained technicians to verify open campaigns.
How do I check if my 2017 Subaru Impreza has an open recall?
You can check for open recalls by entering your VIN on NHTSA.gov or bring your vehicle to Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley for a free VIN check. NHTSA records list detailed recall descriptions; our service advisors and OEM diagnostic tools will confirm which campaigns apply to your VIN and explain scheduled remedies from Subaru. To have us verify and, if applicable, arrange repairs, schedule service online and mention you need a recall VIN check; we also offer service financing so repairs can be done now and paid later.
How much does a 2017 Subaru Impreza recall repair cost?
Recall repairs for the 2017 Subaru Impreza are performed at no cost to the vehicle owner when the issue is confirmed by the manufacturer recall program. If a recall remedy requires parts or software updates under Subaru’s campaign, our dealership performs the work using OEM parts and factory procedures free of charge to you. If additional non-recall maintenance or optional services are requested, those will be disclosed and can be booked separately; ask about our current service specials and service financing options.
Can I get my 2017 Subaru Impreza recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Manufacturer recall repairs must be performed by an authorized dealer to ensure OEM parts, factory software updates, and proper documentation; we strongly recommend using a franchise dealer like Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley. Independent shops may not have access to the required Subaru software updates, OEM parts, or official recall repair instructions — using our certified service department protects safety, warranty compliance, and resale value. To ensure the recall is recorded correctly with Subaru and the NHTSA, bring your vehicle to a certified dealer; you can schedule service now and ask our technicians to perform the free recall repair.
How long does a 2017 Subaru Impreza recall repair take?
Typical recall repairs for the 2017 Subaru Impreza range from a quick parts replacement or software reflash (30–90 minutes) to longer inspections or engine component replacements (several hours to a day), depending on the campaign. For example, brake light switch replacements or reprogramming of driver assist systems are often completed the same day, while engine or air bag inflator replacements can take longer if parts must be located or an engine replacement is necessary. Call or schedule service for an estimated turnaround; Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley prioritizes recall repairs and will advise on expected timing and available loaner options where applicable.
Does an open recall affect my 2017 Subaru Impreza's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can lower buyer confidence and may negatively affect trade-in or resale value because dealers and private buyers often verify recall completion before purchase. Resolving open recalls at a certified dealer like Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley with documented OEM repairs protects resale value and gives prospective buyers confidence in vehicle safety and service history. If you’re preparing to trade or sell, get recalls resolved first—start with a free VIN check and schedule service; you can also use our trade-in tool at value your trade.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2017 Subaru Impreza recall?
Most state inspections do not automatically fail a vehicle solely for an open recall, but certain recalls that affect safety-critical systems (brakes, lights, airbags, engine stalling) can lead to an inspection failure if the defect causes the vehicle to not meet safety standards. Because recalls affecting brake lights, braking systems, ignition/ECM, and airbags are listed for the 2017 Subaru Impreza, leaving those unresolved could result in failed inspections or create liability concerns during an accident. To avoid inspection or insurance complications, have open recalls addressed at Mike Shaw Subaru Greeley — schedule appointment and ask about our free recall repairs and service financing options.
